World Table Tennis Day

Peace on the Table

Are there tensions between diverse groups in your community? Are there constant frictions between neighbours in your building?

World Table Tennis Day (WTTD) is celebrated annually on April 6 since 2015, also marking the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace. It is the day we celebrate table tennis, as well as the universality and social inclusiveness the sport represents.

In line with the biennial celebration of the 50th anniversary of Ping Pong Diplomacy, WTTD 2022 focuses on using table tennis for peace-making and conflict resolutions. Sparked by the original event in the Japanese city of Nagoya in 1971, WTTD 2022 seeks to create friendships and build bridges between conflicted parties on both, the state and grassroots level.

  • Target 16.a: Strengthen relevant national institutions, including through international cooperation, for building capacity at all levels, in particular in developing countries, to prevent violence and combat terrorism and crime.

Create a safe place for dialogues and friendship at your WTTD event

On April 6, 2022, let us celebrate the power of peace-making using table tennis. With an event of your choice, you can help us contribute to the UN SDGs, resolve conflicts and create dialogues between diverse groups in your community through our favourite sport.

Here are some event ideas.

We recommend everyone to be in solidarity during this time of uncertainties. Follow your local, regional, and national Covid-19 regulations to enjoy table tennis and celebrate WTTD 2022 in a safe environment. Your WTTD 2022 event can be:

    • An online celebration - for those, where lockdown measures are still in place.
    • A physical celebration - for those, who are allowed to host an event and ready to work up a sweat and play some table tennis.
