World Table Tennis Day

World Table Tennis Day | 23 April

World Table Tennis Day (WTTD) has been celebrated annually in April since 2015. It is the day we celebrate table tennis, as well as the universality and social inclusiveness the sport represents.

World Table Tennis Day is celebrated on 23 April, honouring Ivor Montagu, organiser of the first World Table Tennis Championships in 1926 and the founder and first president of the ITTF.

WTTD celebrates the joy of playing table tennis for fun, bringing people together, focusing less on competition and more on participation and enjoyment.

Who is WTTD for?

EVERYONE.

WTTD is for the young and the old, the beginner and the pro, it is a public celebration of sport, meant to bring communities together. Inclusion being at the heart of our sport and our celebration. However, like any other sport, table tennis is not automatically inclusive, we must intentionally design it to be so.

Inclusion is not just a value, but a priority at the heart of WTTD.

WTTD 2026-2027 Theme: Health & Well-Being

Join us on  23 April 2026  to celebrate the World Table Tennis Day 2026!

The ITTF Foundation is excited to unveil the new theme for the upcoming two years: Health & Well-Being! The celebration’s theme will extend across two consecutive years (2026 & 2027), a reflection of its vital importance and lasting impact. This theme will not only inspire both editions of World Table Tennis Day but also guide the ITTF Foundation’s work and the shared vision of the entire ITTF Group family.

Health & Well-Being at the Core

Since its creation, Health & Well-Being has been a central commitment of the ITTF Foundation. Through initiatives such as TT4Health and the World Table Tennis for Health Festival, we have showcased how table tennis can change lives encouraging physical activity, enhancing mental health and strengthening social connections.

The new theme builds on this foundation and highlights the transformative power of table tennis to inspire healthier lifestyles. More than just a sport, table tennis is accessible, enjoyable and sustainable it motivates movement, fosters resilience and brings people together across all ages, abilities, and communities..

#TTMovesYou

To amplify this message, the ITTF Foundation is launching the campaign #TTMovesYou, celebrating table tennis not just as a game but as a global movement for healthier bodies and stronger minds.

Meet the WTTD 2026 Promoters

Since its inception in 2021, the WTTD Promoters initiative has played a pivotal role in forming the whole annual event, fostering original and sustainable celebrations in collaboration with local organisations. These initiatives aim to address various community issues and bring along social values through the power of table tennis. As a supporter, the ITTF Foundation is committed to providing the Promoters with guidance and resources to organise their WTTD initiatives on April 23, through not only financial support but also through capacity-building workshops and media exposure.

Each year, passionate changemakers from around the world are selected as World Table Tennis Day Promoters. These individuals lead local celebrations that use table tennis to bring communities together and address social challenges through sport. From schools and community centres to refugee camps and city squares, WTTD Promoters turn the spirit of the day into real action on the ground.
