World Table Tennis Day #TTBelongsToYou
Over the next two years, the focus will be on the theme of "Diversity and Inclusion" for World Table Tennis Day, making it the first time that the theme will extend beyond a single year.
At the recently concluded ITTF Mixed Team World Cup Chengdu 2023 in China, Petra Sörling, the President of ITTF and ITTF Foundation, along with Steve Dainton, the ITTF Group CEO and Liu Guoliang, ITTF Deputy President, revealed this theme for the ITTF Group entities in 2024 and 2025.
This chosen theme emphasizes the unifying nature of the sport, where individuals from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and abilities converge to play table tennis and spread an important message. It serves as a moment to acknowledge that diversity enhances our sporting communities, creating an atmosphere where everyone, regardless of gender, age, race, or physical abilities, can actively participate and thrive. By embracing diversity and inclusion, World Table Tennis Day 2024 and 2025 will aim to reinforce the principle that table tennis can become a symbol of unity, equality, and mutual respect.
To amplify this message, the ITTF Foundation is launching the #TTBelongsToYou campaign, emphasizing that the sport can offer a sense of belonging to each individual. Anticipation for next year's World Table Tennis Day is already growing, with over 80 applications received from around the world to become WTTD promoters.
About World Table Tennis Day
Since 2015, World Table Tennis Day (WTTD) has been an annual celebration held in April. It is a day dedicated to honouring table tennis and recognizing the universal and socially inclusive values the sport embodies. Celebrated on April 23, WTTD pays tribute to Ivor Montagu, the organizer of the first World Table Tennis Championships in 1926 and the founder and initial president of the ITTF. WTTD is a celebration of the joy of playing table tennis for fun, fostering connections among people, with a focus on participation and enjoyment rather than competition.
