The First Parkinson Portugal Open Concluded Successfully
From 14 to 16 March 2026, the inaugural Parkinson Portugal Open brought together 25 players (4 women and 21 men) from 8 European countries to Vila Nova de Gaia for a memorable weekend of inclusive and competitive table tennis. Recognised by the ITTF Foundation, the event highlighted the growing momentum of table tennis initiatives dedicated to people with Parkinson’s.
Throughout this three-day event, players competed in Singles, Doubles, and Mixed Doubles categories, showcasing not only sporting performance but also resilience, connection, and the joy of staying active through table tennis.

The ITTF Foundation would like to acknowledge and thank the Portuguese Table Tennis Federation for the dedication and hard work invested in organising the very first edition of the Parkinson Portugal Open. We warmly congratulate the organisers and wish them continued success for future editions.
The “Recognised by ITTF Foundation” and “Encouraged by ITTF Foundation” labels were created to support organisers in implementing Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s table tennis competition formats, guidelines, and classification systems aligned with those used at the World Table Tennis for Health Festival. Through this framework, the Foundation aims to help organisations develop dedicated competitions for people with Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s while ensuring consistency, fairness, and player-centred competition conditions.

The successful conclusion of the first Parkinson Portugal Open marks another important step in expanding the global TT4Health movement and creating more opportunities for people with Parkinson’s to stay active, connected, and empowered through sport.
