Ease Tension and Strengthen Friendships in Your Community

The ITTF Foundation has published a Grassroots Ping Pong Diplomacy toolkit with guidelines for those who wish to use table tennis to ease tension and strengthen friendship within their communities.

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Ping Pong Diplomacy, the upcoming 2022 World Table Tennis Day focuses on using table tennis for peacemaking. The Grassroots Ping Pong Diplomacy toolkit has been launched just in time, to inspire and guide table tennis enthusiasts worldwide to organise a grassroots Ping Pong Diplomacy event for the April 6 World Table Tennis Day celebration.

Many of us know Ping Pong Diplomacy as the US-China table tennis exchange back in 1971 and 1972. Since then the term has also been associated with the Unified Korea team during the 1991 World Table Tennis Championships in Chiba, Japan. While both events took place on a state's level, creating dialogues and building friendships between individuals through our favourite sport has always been the underlying spirit of the worldwide table tennis community from 1971 to 2022.

The concept of using table tennis to ease tension and make friends might be straightforward, organising a truly impactful event takes experience and guidance. The Grassroots Ping Pong Diplomacy toolkit provides a step-by-step guide to creating grassroots Ping Pong Diplomacy events of all scales. Whether the event takes place in your backyard or a national stadium, no event is too small, or too big for placing individuals as key players to ensure humanity live together peacefully.

The Grassroots Ping Pong Diplomacy toolkit offers easy to follow tips that guide event organisers through all necessary steps leading to a successful grassroots Ping Pong Diplomacy event. With a printable checklist, event organisers enjoy the convenience while promoting, advocating and encouraging open, non-violent dialogue through table tennis.
